May 17, 2024 (Ramona) – Amid renovations of Ramona’s historic town hall, the venue will host its first live music concerts in 40 years on June 8 and 9. Ashley E. Norton will perform songs from her newest album, “Call of the Void” along with a song called “Whiskey in the Walls” written specifically about Ramona’s Town Hall. The singer/songwriter will also debut a music video at the event, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the town hall renovations.
A reception will be held at 6 p.m. on June 8 followed by the concert at 7 p.m., sponsored by Everything Ramona. The event will also feature food trucks, beer from Smoking Cannon Brewery, and wines from both Pamo Valley and Ramona Ranch wineries. A second concert has been added as a Sunday matinee on June 9 at 2 p.m.
The reception will include performances by local Ramona musicians Chloe Lou and Tyler Stamets. The main feature with Norton will include Johnny Garcia, lead guitar player for Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood.
Tickets ($30) can be purchased at AshleyENorton.com/TownHall.
“Whiskey in the Walls” was inspired by a legend which claims that because the building was donated to the town under condition that it be a dry hall, the masons rebelled and hid a jug of whiskey in the walls to assure that alcohol would always be present, according to the EverythingRamona website.
So far, no whiskey jug has been found as the renovations continue on this historic town hall, which was built in 1894. The building has through the years also served as the town’s first library, movie theater, high school, bank, dance hall, and courthouse as well as home to the Chamber of Commerce, Masons, and Ramona’s Volunteer Fire Department.
