February 10, 2014 (Lemon Grove)--  Episode Six "Unnecessary War" continues the film saga of the life and times of U.S. President John Adams on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Lemon Grove Library, 3001 School Lane.   Sponsored by the Lemon Grove Historical Society in cooperation with the library, the stirring HBO series stars Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney as John and Abigail Adams, together with a stellar cast.

"The Unnecessary War" covers Adams's term as president and the rift between Alexander Hamilton's Federalists and Thomas Jefferson's Republicans.  Adams's neutrality angers both sides and shakes his friendship with Jefferson.  In his struggle to prevent war with France, and after signing the controversial Alien and Sedition Acts, Adams finds himself alone in the political wilderness.  Compounding the stress is the plight of his alcoholic son Charles.

“We will say no more about this dramatic and moving episode as there are some surprises in store for enthralled viewers, who have been faithfully attending this seven-part historical series,” says Helen Ofield, president of the Lemon Grove Historical Society.

"John Adams" is free and suitable for ages 14 and over.
