October 13, 2016 (El Cajon) -- St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, received a $500,000 gift from A-1 Self Storage. The funds are being used to support renovations for a new Aquatics Locker Room Facility at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, renovations began on September 13.
As St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Aquatics Locker Room Facility renovations are part of a comprehensive capital campaign in an effort to prepare for the next 50 years of serving individuals with developmental disabilities. SMSC’s Aquatic Program offers classes year-round to the general public and SMSC students. The program includes The Arthritis Foundation’s Aquatic Exercise Class and SMSC’s own moderate intensity Aqua Fitness Class. Small group or private adaptive swim lessons for adults and children with special needs and adaptive swim team training are also offered.
Terrence and Barbara Caster founded A-1 Self-Storage and have supported St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center for decades, beginning with their volunteerism when their son, Brian Caster (President of A-1 Self Storage), and his siblings served at the Center during summers while growing up.
Debra Emerson, CEO of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, said “On behalf of our 400 students with developmental disabilities at the Center, we’d like to express our sincere gratitude to the Caster Family and A-1 Self Storage for their extremely generous gift.” She continued, “We deeply appreciate their caring generosity and ongoing support of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center and the students we serve.”
