June 25, 2010 (La Mesa, CA) -- The cities of La Mesa and Santee will hold their second annual fashion show fundraiser,“Fashion Rocks the East,” to benefit the Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee Pageants Scholarship Fund. The fashion show will be held on Sunday, August 8th at the La Mesa Community Services Arbor Room at 3 p.m.

Former contestants and titleholders in the Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee programs will model wardrobe items provided by local businesses.  Ramshakle, a popular East County band, will provide live music.

The fundraiser was established in 2009 in an effort to raise scholarship funds in a struggling economy.

“Last year we raised over $2,500 and this year our goal is to raise over $4,000," says Troy Hartpence, Miss Santee Pageant Director. “All of the proceeds will go back into giving our 2011 contestants and titleholders scholarship money to further their education.”

Miss La Mesa 2010 Erynne Grecco was awarded a $750 scholarship thanks to the fundraising efforts last year. She will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall. “The scholarship money makes a difference," she said. "College is expensive, books are expensive. I am also gaining public speaking skills, community service hours and becoming a more well-rounded young woman by serving as Miss La Mesa. The program is helping me achieve my goals so we need to continue fundraising efforts like the fashion show to advance the program for future contestants in years to come.”

The fashion show is open to the public and includes a silent auction and dessert reception. Tickets are $20 each. To purchase tickets, contact pageant director Alexandra Kuty at 619-698-4163 or emailing misslamesapageant@yahoo.com.

The 2011 Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee Pageants will be held in March of 2011. The two cities hold their pageants together in the same show to offset costs of the production. Young women who are ages 13-26 are eligible to participate.
