

June 17, 2013 (San Diego)-- San Diegans will decide which local environmental nonprofit organization is most deserving of the ECO Ambassadors People’s Choice Award and a grand prize of $25,000 from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). The eight local organizations that are finalists were announced at a breakfast ceremony on May 28. They were selected to participate because their programs exemplify environmental stewardship, innovation and responsibility.
The final 8 contestants are:
- Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation
- Bayside Community Center
- City Heights Community Development Corporation
- Escondido Creek Conservancy
- The Tree Frog Project through the Foundation
- For Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges
- Groundwork San Diego—Chollas Creek
- Outdoor Outreach
- San Diego Archaeological Center
The People’s Choice Award is a part of the larger ECO Ambassadors campaign, a collaborative partnership between The San Diego River Park Foundation, San Diego Gas & Electric, and CBS8. The partnership aims to build regional environmental awareness by educating and engaging San Diegans on innovative environmental programs that positively impact the San Diego region.

The San Diego River Park Foundation is excited to be a part of this incredible campaign to bring environmental awareness and stewardship to the forefront.”
“SDG&E is proud to help recognize the top environmental organizations that are truly demonstrating their commitment to the environment and to our community,” said Frank Urtasun, regional vice president of external relations for SDG&E. “Our goal is to help bring awareness to the wonderful work they are doing and provide the much needed grants that these groups need to continue to make a difference.
Everyone is encouraged to participate by voting for the organization that they think is most deserving of this award. Online voting runs through June 20. The organization with the most votes will receive a $25,000 grant, the first runner up will receive a $10,000 grant, and each other organization will receive $2,000 for participating.
