November 10, 2016 (Santee) - More than 100 Girl Scouts from San Diego County joined Padre Dam Municipal Water District on Sunday, November 6 to learn about water, conservation and the future of water in East San Diego County during Padre Dam’s Girl Scout San Diego Day at the East County Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Facility.

“It is especially important to teach our next generation about water resources,” said Allen Carlisle, CEO and General Manager of Padre Dam. “Girl Scouts from all over the county were treated to a unique educational experience, learning about water – where our drinking water comes from, where it goes after going down the drain and how we can purify this water using advanced technology to drink again,” said Carlisle.

During the event, Girl Scouts visited several education stations that included a guided tour of the Advanced Water Purification Facility, touching membranes and filters, squeezing dirty water through filters to clean the water and playing water games.

Padre Dam’s Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Facility treats recycled water using four advanced water purification steps. The end product is water so clean that it is near-distilled in quality. The Advanced Water Purification Program could ultimately produce up to 30 percent of the drinking water for residents in the Padre Dam Municipal Water District and Helix Water District water service areas.

Tours of the demonstration facility are available to the public. Visit www.EastCoutyAWP.com to sign up and learn more about the program. Padre Dam will host another Girl Scout Day in spring 2017.  For more information or to take a tour of the Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Facility, please call 619-258-4614 or email water@padre.org
