PEDESTRIAN KILLED BY TROLLEY IN EL CAJON

Update Sept. 29 - The victim has been identified as Andre Duff Zollicoffer, age 48.

Update Sept. 28, 7 p.m. - Trolley service has been restored.

 

September 28, 2011 (El Cajon) – A pedestrian has been struck and killed by the trolley at Arnelle and Marshall Avenue, according to Monica Zech, spokesperson for the City of El Cajon.

 

The accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. Trolley service in both directions has been halted and passengers are being shuttled from the El Cajon Transit Center to a trolley stop at Gillespie Field.

 

"Preliminary indications based on witness statements are the victim walked from the trolley platform onto the trolley tracks and into the path of the oncoming southbound trolley," Lt. Frank La Haye with El Cajon Police Department said in a prepared release.  "The trolley driver immediately attempted to stop by activating the emergency brake and sounding the federal emergency horn. The pedestrian attempted to retreat to the trolley platform however he was struck by the oncoming trolley."
