Update: The victim has been identified as Emily Palmeter, who resided on Via Vallarta in San Diego, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.  An autopsy has not yet been conducted.

November 20, 2010 (Tierrasanta)--San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl inside a Tierrasanta apartment last night.

At 1:22 a.m., police officers and paramedics were dispatched to a report of death at an apartment in the 5100 block of Via Valarta. When they arrived, they found the victim in the living room. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures and transported the girl to a trauma center, but she died at 2:34 a.m.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the decedent and a 16-year-old female friend were visiting two men, 18 and 19, using the Jacuzzi at the complex. The victim and one of the men went into an apartment for a few minutes, then he returned and said the girl was in medical distress. Although the victim showed no signs of external trauma, her age, lack of medical history, and circumstances of her death warranted an investigation by the Homicide Unit.

The cause and manner of the victim’s death are undetermined. An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. The victim’s name will not be released pending complete family notification.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
