POLICE SEEK IDENTITY OF BURNED BODY FOUND IN WRECKAGE IN ESCONDIDO

July 4, 2011 (Escondido) – The charred remains of a man were discovered in the burned wreckage of a Dodge Caravan minivan that was involved in a T-bone collision with a black Lexus ES300 Sedan in the 700 block of Washington Ave. at the intersection of Elmwood Drive at 2:15 a.m. yesterday. The minivan became engulfed in flames immediately after the accident.

Escondido Police officers and fire personnel found the body in the minivan after extinguishing the falmes. Death was confirmed at the scene; cause of death was thermal injuries and inhalation of combustion products, though blunt force head and neck trauma were contribution conditions, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s report.
 

The victim’s identification is not yet known, however police are pursuing identification with his likely family members.
 

Death has been ruled accidental. Escondido Police are investigating the accident.
