July 25, 2010 (Jamacha) – Two San Diego Police officers shot a man in the chest and leg this morning after he reportedly threw a knife at an officer . Neighbors called San Diego Police this morning to report that the man at 6935 Jamacha was breaking windows with a hammer and that children were running around screaming, SDPD reports.

When officers arrived, the man’s wife said that he told her they were “losing everything” the began behaving irrationally, smashing windows in the house and three vehicles on the driveway.

As an officer rounded a rear corner of the house, he saw the man armed with a sledge hammer and a knife. The officer ordered the man to drop the weapons and come taords him. The man refused and instead, threw the knife at the officer.

The man then ran into his house and came out with a second knife,  which he raised to throw at the officers, according to SDPD. Both officers fired their weapons.

The suspect, a Vietnamese man in his 40s, was taken to a local trauma center where he underwent surgery. His injuries are not considered life threatening. His wife and children were not hurt.

The officers have both been on the force for more than two years. Both have been placed on administrative assignment, per department policy in the Southeastern Division, pending conclusion of an investigation.
