June 2, 2024 (San Diego) – A protester was arrested Friday following efforts to obstruct a motorcade carrying Vice President Kamala Harris to a political fundraiser in Rancho Santa Fe Friday afternoon. Approximately 50 protesters gathered outside the gated community to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“One of the protesters jumped in front of the motorcade to stop Vice President Harris from entering the neighborhood. Deputies intervened and detained the protester blocking the motorcade,” says Lieutenant Gavin Lanning.
Another protester intervened, enabling the first protester to run away, says Lt. Lanning. The second protester, Anisa Rebecca Chaudry, 37, was arrested on a charge of obstructing a peace officer. Chaudry was taken to the North Coastal Sheriff's Station where she was cited and released.
Yesterday at the White House, President Joe Biden called for a cease fire and said Hamas no longer has the capability to carry out a major terrorist attack on Israel. “It’s time for this war to end, for the day after to begin,” the President said.
He laid out a three-phased proposal for a cease fire.
Phase one would be a complete cease-fire and withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas in Gaza; Hamas would release some hostages including American hostages, as well as remains of hostages who died, in exchange for release of many Palestinian prisoners. Gaza citizens could return home and significant new aid including food would be provided.
Phase two would include a release of all remaining hostages while a permanent cease fire is negotiated.
Phase three would be the beginning of a “major reconstruction plan for Gaza,” NPR reports.
