August 25, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Want to save water--and reduce your bill?

Residents of San Diego’s unincorporated areas can pick up rain barrel systems for half-price ($30.35 + tax) this Saturday morning. The system is designed to connect to a roof downspout and gutters.  Residents who don’t qualify for the subsidy can buy a rain barrel system for $60.69.

The rain barrel sales event will be held Saturday, August 28 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Water Conservation Garden, 12122 Cuyamaca College Drive West, in El Cajon.  Each system includes a 55 gallon white barrel, downspout diverter, installation guide, and one-year warranty.

To qualify for the subsidy, you must show proof that you are a resident of the unincorporated County. (Proof of residency includes driver’s license or CA identification card, utility bill, or home ownership record.) You will need to fill out an application form and a maintenance agreement form. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

The program is brought to you by the County of San Diego watershed protection program.
