March 28, 2023 (Poway) -- On March 25 at Powpac Theatre in Poway, "The Savannah Sipping Society" opened.  It’s a tale of friendship, resilience, and self-discovery. The story follows four women who form a deep bond through a series of unexpected events, helping each other navigate through life's challenges. It is a refreshing take on female friendships that is both hilarious and heartwarming.

Through their weekly meetings, they share laughter, tears, and support each other through their triumphs and struggles. The joy they bring to each other's lives is palpable, and their friendship is a testament to the power of human connection.

As the story unfolds, we witness these women transform and grow, finding the strength to face their fears and pursue their dreams. The emotional journey of these characters is inspiring and will leave you feeling uplifted and grateful for the people in your own life who offer unwavering support and love.

Director Mary L. Smith believes that while you can't choose your family, you can choose your friends, and "The Savannah Sipping Society" is a beautiful example of this. It’s written by the playwriting trio Jones, Hope, and Wooten, Wooten, who was a writer for "Golden Girls," created this delightful play.

Four talented actresses take the stage and bring the characters to life: Kathryn Schellinger as Randa Covington, a southern belle perfectionist and workaholic who was recently fired from her job; Jennifer Scibetta as Marlafaye Mosley, a recent widow who is still grieving and seeking to start a new life in Savannah; Susan Branch as Dot Haigler, recently widowed after a long and happy marriage; and Lynn Smith as Jinx Jenkins, a spunky and energetic life coach who has recently moved to Savannah.

The story takes place on the beautiful and well-designed second-story veranda of a Savannah home in the present, making the audience feel as if they want to sit out on the porch with a drink.

Overall, "The Savannah Sipping Society" is a heartwarming and emotional tribute to the power of friendship and the resilience of the human spirit.
