January 25, 2011 (Alpine)--The Unity Group, a combination of concerned Alpine/Blossom Valley community members, organizations and businesses, is hosting a rally to inform citizens of the facts behind the building of the 12th high school in the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD). This high school is to serve students of the Alpine/Blossom Valley area with funds from Propositions H and U (passed in 2004 and 2008 respectively).

“Development of this high school and the definition of the community it serves are in jeopardy,” a press release issued by the Unity Group states.

The rally will take place on Wednesday, February 2nd in the auditorium of Alpine Elementary School, 1850 Alpine Blvd. Free food and refreshments will be provided from 6:00 – 6:30 PM with the presentation beginning at 6:30 PM. Donations provided by Alpine Kiwanis, Albertson’s, Starbucks and other community sponsors.

As critical deadlines approach for construction of this high school, local advocates will update the public on District plans for service area, enrollment, school size, development, expansion, budget and more.

Attendees will be asked to support a resolution that demands the delivery of the comprehensive high school promised to the community and paid for by its citizens.

The Grossmont Union High School District has approved construction of the new high school, but implementation is dependent on meeting enrollment triggers. In addition, details on how broad an area will be served remain uncertain.
