Raised in Rancho Bernardo, Bell has lived in Poway and currently resides in Ramona.
“Monty Bell has done an outstanding job in taking active SAR leadership roles as a professional volunteer for the citizens of San Diego County as well as the entire State of California by dedicating his time and expertise to the profession of Search and Rescue,” said Matt Scharper, deputy chief of the California Emergency Management Association Law Enforcement division. "

In making the presentation, Scharper quipped, “Monty brings and extra experience value to this course as he is the only Search Management instructor that we could find that has actually been lost.”  He added, “Monty exhibits a clear commitment to make SAR better for his county, for the State of California, for our nation…Your dedication, your time, and your commitment are way above the call of duty.
