RAMONA RESIDENT MONTY BELL RECEIVES STATE AWARD FOR SEARCH & RESCUE

July 13, 2011 (Ramona) – Monty Bell, who has dedicated over 15 years to Search and Rescue efforts locally, was honored with a statewide award presented at the National Association for Search & Rescue in Reno, Nevada. Raised in Rancho Bernardo, Bell has lived in Poway and currently resides in Ramona. 
 
 
“Monty Bell has done an outstanding job in taking active SAR leadership roles as a professional volunteer for the citizens of San Diego County as well as the entire State of California by dedicating his time and expertise to the profession of Search and Rescue,” said Matt Scharper, deputy chief of the California Emergency Management Association Law Enforcement division. "
 
  
“Monty has taken SAR volunteerism beyond simple training and responding to local SAR missions.  He has committed to the states SAR management instructional program, as well as to both the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR), as a current Board Member, as well as to the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA) as the Past President.”
 
 
Bell represents both national associations to California’s State Sheriff’s SAR Coordinators sessions each quarter in Sacramento. He also dedicates his time, experiences, expertise, and expert instructional skills to California’s only “Peace Officers Standards and Training” Search and Rescue Management Course program, the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) Law Enforcement Division’s “Direction and Control of the Search Function – Search and Rescue Management Course”, a recognized NASAR MLPI Course. 
 
In making the presentation, Scharper quipped, “Monty brings and extra experience value to this course as he is the only Search Management instructor that we could find that has actually been lost.”  He added, “Monty exhibits a clear commitment to make SAR better for his county, for the State of California, for our nation…Your dedication, your time, and your commitment are way above the call of duty.
 
 

Bell’s participation has included the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA), Law Enforcement Division, Lead SAR Management Instructor; Long time member of the San Diego Mountain Rescue Team professional volunteer – for the San Diego County Sheriff; NASAR Board Member/Treasurer and MRA Past President/Membership Chairman,  California State Sheriff’s SAR Coordinators representative to both NASAR and MRA;  for your excellent efforts to improve Search and Rescue for your county, for the State of California, and for our Nation
