April 2 (Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.) — Author and activist Ashton Applewhite will discusses and signs her new book, This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism. She has been recognized by the New York Times, the New Yorker, National Public Radio, and the American Society on Aging as an expert on ageism.

April 4 (Thursday, 7:00 p.m.) — Ashley Poston signs The Princess and The Fangirl. (Author Ashley Poston loves dread pirates, starry night skies, moving castles, and fanfiction. The self-described “nerdigan” has written several novels that draw from her charmingly nerdy background: Heart of Iron, Soul of Stars, Geekerella, and her latest book The Princess and the Fangirl. This is a ticketed event.

April 4 (Thursday, 7:30 p.m.) — Lisa See will discusses and signs her new book, The Island of Sea Women. She is the New York Times bestselling author of The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls, China Dolls, and Dreams of Joy, which debuted at #1. She is also the author of On Gold Mountain, which tells the story of her Chinese American family's settlement in Los Angeles.

April 6 (Saturday, 12:00 p.m.) — San Diego's Write Out Loud will be performing selections from the 2019 NEA Big Read, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel on the street in front of The Book Catapult. The performance will be followed by a discussion of the book in-store.

April 6 (Saturday, 2:00 p.m.) — Writer and editor Chad Stroup signs Sexy Leper. Chad received his MFA in Fiction from local San Diego State University. He is also a member of the Horror Writers Association and the San Diego Horror Professionals. Chad’s latest novel, Sexy Leper, chronicles the strangest post-Halloween hangover one could ever have.

April 8 (Monday, 6:00 p.m.) — Adventures by the Book® is pleased to partner with renowned chef Isabel Cruz for our new Cooking at the Cantina Adventures series. The third part of this series, Healthy Spring Cooking, is at Isabel’s Cantina, 966 Felspar St, San Diego, CA 92109. This event is ticketed ($60 per hands on cooking class or $150 for three class package) and is open to the public.

Popular San Diego chef and author Isabel Cruz brings her culinary Latin heritage front and center, adding to it the Asian influence she absorbed while growing up in Los Angeles.

April 9 (Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.) — Acclaimed debut novelist K. Chess will be at The Book Catapult to discuss and sign her book, Famous Men Who Never Lived.

April 12 (Friday, 6:30 p.m.) — POETRY & ART SERIES 2019 at the San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) presents Cultures Connect, a reading by renowned authors Kimberly Dark, Malachi Black, Jennifer Minniti-Shippey, Mario DeMatteo, minerva, Shadab Zeest Hashmi, and Gerardo Navarro, a.k.a. Nemónico. People’s Choice open mic follows. Hosted by Michael Klam andJim Moreno. DJ Gill Sotu will provide music and sound throughout the show. Cultures Connect is a collaboration between San Diego Writers, Ink; SDAI; P&A; and Jim Moreno.
