There are strong ties between the 9/11 heroes in New York and our own La Mesa Fire Department--forged in the fires of dual tragedies in both regions

September 1, 2011 (La Mesa)--The City of La Mesa will host a remembrance ceremony on the ten year anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. A memorial wreath will be placed at the 9/11 Memorial at Fire Station 12, 8844 Dallas Street.

La Mesa firefighters assisted in recovery efforts in New York following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  A few years later, after San Diego's East County was devastated by the Harris wildfire, New York firefighters showed their gratitude by coming to our region to help fire survivors clean up and rebuild--including a La Mesa firefighter who lost his home in the flames

In the September 11 commemoration ceremony, which begins at 9:30 a.m., a musical tribute will be followed by a moment of silence. The ceremony will conclude with the Fire Department sirens at 10:00 a.m. as we “stop and remember.”
