July 27, 2024 (El Cajon) -- Investigators from the El Cajon Police Department conducted a retail theft operation in collaboration with two major retailers to combat the ongoing theft issues facing our local businesses. Investigators worked closely with store staff to surveil and arrest thieves in real-time without a delayed response. This one-day operation netted five arrests and led to the recovery of over $800 in merchandise. Four arrestees were juveniles and were released to their guardians after processing, according to Sgt. Kevin Reilly.

Noureddin Abtini, 21 years old, of El Cajon, was the suspect in a series of thefts from local salon supply stores over that last year. The loss in those cases was over $3,000 in merchandise. Abtini was arrested during yesterday’s operation. At the time of his arrest, Abtini was in possession of an additional $600.00 in merchandise as well as methamphetamine. Abtini has an arrest record that includes multiple arrests for commercial burglary, grand theft, and drug-related offenses.

“The El Cajon Police Department will use every resource available to hold criminals who commit these types of thefts accountable. Criminal Acts will not be tolerated and will have consequences for those who commit them.” say Chief Mike Moulton
