December 4, 2024 (San Diego) -- The San Diego Concert Band kicks off its 35th season with the annual holiday concert on December 19 at Joan B. Kroc Theatre at 7 p.m.. Barbara Allen returns as guest vocalist, backed by the band playing special arrangements by local musician, composer/arranger, and music educator Adam Pezdek.

Barbara Allen is originally from the United Kingdom and is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music, London, where she studied voice performance. Singing from a very early age, Barbara has always been passionate about music and has a particular love for musical theater, playing the lead roles in productions such as “My Fair Lady”, “The Pirates of Penzance”, “The Mikado”, “The Sound of Music” and “Charlie Girl”. She has recorded three solo albums and performed throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to performing, Barbara also works as a professional voice coach, Choral Director and freelance Performing Arts Consultant for television and theater productions.

 

 

 

Adam Pezdek, a native of San Diego, spent 22 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Marine Musician and performed on trombone, piano, and as a conductor throughout the country as well as Japan, Germany, Kuwait and Australia.  As an arranger he has arranged over 200 pieces for Marine Corps Bands, scored music for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration and has created arrangements for Aretha Franklin, Ryan Anthony, Bones Apart, and the Chicago run of the musical “First Wives Club.” 

 

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Pezdek taught Band and Choir at West Hills High School in Santee, CA, General Music at Eastlake Elementary School in Chula Vista, CA, and Wind Band at the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory. He was the Director of Bands and Orchestra Director at Valhalla High School in El Cajon, CA.  and serves as a Brass Tech for Gold Drum and Bugle Corps. He is currently the instrumental music teacher at Lemon Grove Academy Middle School and an adjunct music professor at Cuyamaca Community College.

 

The San Diego Concert Band, under the direction of Roy Anthony, Jr.,  is a 501 3 (c) non-profit organization. The Band performs a wide range of music; traditional symphonic band pieces, marches, show tunes and arrangements of orchestral works for band. The Band is composed of nearly 100 local musicians from all walks of life. We are proud to have among our members several musicians who are currently stationed in San Diego and who are assigned to Navy and Marine Corps bands.
