May 20, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego County American Legion Baseball is comprised of the greater San Diego County and offers an abundance of High School talent. Historically, San Diego was once a prominent region for Legion Baseball. In the The American Legion World Series, San Diego teams were crowned National Champions in 1938, 1941 and 1954. For whatever reason in the 1980's, San Diego County American Legion Baseball disappeared.

In 2017, a handful of veterans within the American Legion organization spearheaded operations to re-ignite American Legion Baseball in San Diego. These passionate veterans took the mindset of “If you build it, they will come.” As such, initiatives were launched towards the end of 2017 and early 2018, trenches were dug deep and the rebuilding phase began.

San Diego County American Legion Baseball is honored to say they did restore Legion Baseball to its once prominent status. The 2018 inaugural season provided a tremendous foundation to future growth developing this highly competitive Legion Baseball League within the County.

The league still stands behind the traditional values upon which it was founded in 1925. American Legion Baseball has taught hundreds of thousands of young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health, and active citizenship. The program is also a promoter of equality, making teammates out of young athletes regardless of their income levels or social standings. To compete with the local travel ball teams, San Diego County American Legion Baseball decided to make the league accessible to County youth without concern of the financial burden placed on players or their families. There is “NO Pay to Play!”

It is important to note the financial burden does exist and San Diego County American Legion Baseball cannot afford to do this by themselves. Based on the success of the 2018 season, San Diego County American Legion Baseball knows 2019 will have increased expenses and can safely project each team will cost $3,000. Currently, San Diego County American Legion Baseball has 22 teams committed for the season. San Diego County American Legion Baseball is seeking "Team Sponsors" and encourages any interested parties to contact us immediately.

San Diego County American Legion Baseball welcomes all donations in time, resources and funding. Please contact Ms. Judi Leonardi at contributions@ald22baseball.org to help. Please know the request for financial assistance is not for veterans, it is to strengthen our communities and allow youth a platform to "Play Ball!”
