November 28, 2018 (San Diego) – Now in its 18th season, the San Diego Festival Chorus and Orchestra will present “Sounds of the Season” on December 9th at 3 p.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church (4747 College Avenue, San Diego 92115).  Based in East County, the group performs choral masterworks and popular programs, regularly filling up the 1500-seat venue for its concerts.

This season’s program includes "Messe Solonnelle" (St. Cecilia Mass) by Charles Gounod,  written in 1855 to honor the Patron Saint of Music. This mass was chosen by the Vatican to celebrate Christmas in Rome. The final movement of this work, "Domine Salvum", was later added to celebrate the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor of France.

The second part of the performance will include the best of Christmas carols in unique arrangements by the 85-member chorus and 48-piece symphony orchestra. Finally, the musicians will raise your Christmas spirits with happy Holiday songs from “Variations on Jingle Bells” to “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”.

The program has something for everyone. Performed in the College Avenue Baptist Church, with its excellent acoustics, it will be an unforgettable experience.
