May 10, 2019 (Alpine) – One of San Diego’s longest operating small businesses, County Motor Parts Inc., announces the opening of its 12th location--8th in San Diego County--in Alpine. The 73-year-old business has been run by three generations of the San Diego-based Eckis family.

The Eckis family debuted the first store in 1946 in El Cajon. Since, the family has expanded its empire with six stores in San Diego County, two in Imperial County and four in Mohave County. County Motor Parts provides parts and services for industries such as automobile, commercial hauling and heavy duty, and agricultural parts and accessories.

“My grandfather started in El Cajon in 1946 and we’ve carried his legacy on through 12 stores and employed over 100 people from our community,” said Jim Eckis, current owner and operator. “We thrive on customer service and connecting with every single person that walks through our doors.”

With the new opening comes a new generation, CMP is onboarding its fourth generation of family ownership and its first ever female owner. Whitney Eckis, daughter of Jim Eckis, will be integrating new strategic marketing tactics into CMP’s traditional sales campaigns. Eckis is owner of Eckis Marketing, a digital marketing agency located in the heart of downtown San Diego.

“CMP isn’t just a business to us, its family,” said Whitney Eckis, future owner of CMP. “My dad has been the biggest inspiration for me in business. Growing up alongside side of CMP and watching him continue its success has been the biggest inspiration of my life. I hope to continue and grow CMP with the same vision and values my father has had for the company. Impacting new communities with the same personal connection and value driven morals that my great-grandfather, grandfather and dad had.”

With bigger franchise competitors like AutoZone Auto Parts and O’Reilly Auto Parts, CMP partners with NAPA Auto Parts supplier which allows CMP to continue to run like a small business and deliver expertise in multiple areas of the automotive industry.

This isn’t CMP’s first store in Alpine. In fact, fifteen years ago Jim Eckis and CMP had to move out of its store front due to raised rent.

The team is eager to be back in Alpine and celebrates with a grand opening on May 31 - June 2. CMP is celebrating the grand opening by hosting a car show, ribbon cutting and an array of beverages and bites from some of San Diego’s favorite vendors.
