June 22, 2024 (Santee) -- The City of Santee is proud to work with Waste Management to bring the 2024 Peterbuilt 520 Electric Side Loader Collection Truck into service. Santee will be the first city in San Diego County to use an electric vehicle in its waste collection services.
The truck boasts some impressive features, including the capability to run nine to 12 hours, or 80 to 120 miles per charge. While it runs, the truck takes advantage of frequent stopping and starting by regenerative braking, allowing for energy efficiency and more smooth and quiet operation.
This completely electric truck will be more efficient than the gas-powered vehicles and even require less maintenance because of the electric motor. By using the electric collection truck, the City of Santee will be able to reduce the amount of air and noise pollution emitted when the truck services Santee residential customers.
All are invited to attend the Waste Management EV Hauler Unveiling Ceremony on June 26 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Santee City Hall (10601 Magnolia Ave, Santee CA). Attendees can see the truck in-person, hear more about the truck’s specifications and enjoy light refreshments.
Learn more about the ceremony on the City of Santee’s website.
