February 1, 2019 (San Diego) – Aspiring young opera and concert singers are one step closer to Carnegie Hall, thanks to the Virginia and Susan Hawk Scholarship which helps fund their studies. Applications are now being accepted at http://msc-gcca.org/vocal-scholarships/ and auditions will be held March 23rd at the La Mesa First United Methodist Church.

“The Music Scholarship Council will keep classical music alive in East County!” says Shirley Stowers, MSC president.

Virginia Hawk, wife of U.S. Navy Captain C.V.W. Hawk, established the award in 1979 in memory of their daughter, Susan.

The MSC encourages the community to get the word out to classical music lovers, teachers, choir directors, and aspiring musicians locally.  The scholarships are available up to $3,000 for first place winners, $2,000 for second place, and a third place to be announced.

Applicants must be age 20 to 35 and reside in San Diego or Imperial County.

For more information, visit www.msc-gcca.org or email Shirley Stowers at shirleystowers@me.com.
