April 5, 2015 (San Diego) – The San Diego Festival Chorus and Orchestra will present “Two for the Show” on Sunday, May 3rd at 3 p.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church (4747 College Avenue, San Diego).

The concert features two major choral works:  Gioacchino Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” and John Rutter’s “Feel the Spirit.”  The performers include a 90-voice chorus and soloists as well as a 48-piece symphony orchestra .

Rossini was the most popular and prolific composer of his time.  The "Stabat Mater" is one of his most celebrated masterpieces.  He was called "the Italian Mozart" because of the song-like melodies throughout his scores. John Rutter is a modern composer of English choral music fame known also for his melodies."Feel The Spirit" is a unique arrangement of the famous spirituals that have made American music known throughout the world.

The East County based Chorus is in its 15th season and has performed over 50 choral masterworks and popular choral arrangements.

We performed part of the "Stabat Mater" at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on our 2005 tour.
