S.D. POLICE REVIEW BOARD SEEKS CITIZEN MEMBERS

September 11, 2010 (San Diego) -– The City of Sa Diego’s Citizens’ Review on Police Practices is seeking new members. The Board is responsible for reviewing serious citizen complaints against San Diego police officers, officer-involved shootings, and in-custody deaths. The CRB also oversees the administration of discipline in cases where the officer has been found to have disobeyed proper policy and procedure. Additionally, the CRB makes policy and procedure recommendations to the Chief of Police.

 

This 23 member Board strives for diversity; including ethnic, racial, geographic, occupation, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and age. An initial informational meeting for candidates will occur and then prospective members will be interviewed by a committee comprised of current and former Board members.
 

Recommendations for prospective membership are then sent to the Mayor for appointment. prospective members will undergo training and will be appointed to the CRB when vacancies occur. Board members may serve for up to eight, one-year terms and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. Board members should live in the City of San Diego. Successful candidates will undergo a police background check.
