March 7, 2015 (San Diego)--On Thursday, March 19, three seasoned freelancers Hilary Achauer, Anita Palmer, and Lynette Smith, will provide valuable insights to help editors and writers put together successful job quotes at the next program meeting of the San Diego Professional Editors Network (SD/PEN). The presentation, Getting the Price Right: The Art of Bidding Jobs, will take place at 6:30 p.m. in San Diego County Health Services Complex.

The moderated panel discussion will explore best practices for communicating with new clients; how to formulate a project bid that is clear and fair; the advantages and disadvantages of charging by the hour, page, or word; important factors to take into account when formulating a bid; and how to promote one’s services and abilities to prospective clients.

All three panelists have extensive experience in professional writing and editing:

Hillary Achauer has more than 15 years of marketing and communications experience, with a specialization in health and wellness. She has written for numerous publications and agencies.

Anita K. Palmer is founder of TheStrongWord.com and brings more than 30 years of using her writing and editing skills to help publishers, authors, and media outlets with messaging and manuscripts.

Lynette Smith’s 30-plus years of freelance editing began with operating Qualitype Editing and Word Processing, and she currently operates All My Best Copyediting and Heartfelt Publishing.

The cost is free to SD/PEN members and only $10.00 for nonmembers. The evening will include snacks and beverages and an opportunity to network before and after the presentation.
