November 16, 2016 (Escondido) — The California Public Utilities Commission will hold public hearings January 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on San Diego Gas & Electric Company’s application for authorization to recover costs related to the 2007 Southern California wildfires recorded in the Wildfire Expense Memorandum Account (WEBA).

If approved, ratepayers could be picking up the tab for SDG&E’s costs that were not covered by insurance.   State investigators have previously concluded that SDG&E lines caused several of the 2007 wildfires.

The hearing will be held at the California Center for the Arts Escondido conference center, Salon 1Room, 340 North Escondido Blvd., Escondido 92025.

The utility is required to mail a notice to all customers regarding the hearing and publish notices in newspapers in its service area.

Two days into the fires, approximately 500,000 people from at least 346,000 homes were under mandatory orders to evacuate,[29] the largest evacuation in the region's history.[30] Evacuation sites included Qualcomm Stadium,[30] as well as many schools, civic centers, and churches throughout the area.[27] The American Red Cross managed the evacuation centers.
