SDPD OFFICER SAVES MAN FROM BURNING CAR

December 1, 2013 (San Diego) – An unconscious motorist was rescued from a burning car in Grantville Saturday night by San Diego Police Officer Scott Brengi. 

After the vehicle rolled over, the driver was trapped upside down, suspended by a seatbelt, when the vehicle caught fire.Officer Brengi pried open the door and crawled in on his back to pull the driver to safety as flames reached the passenger compartment..

“The Officer suffered an arm strain and is doing fine," Captain David Rohowits said today.

The crash occurred on Rancho Mission Road near Ward Road in the Grantville area.  According to Lt  Paul Rorrison, the driver veered off the pavement and struck a fence near the trolley tracks, broke a pole and overturned

“He’s a hero,” Rorrison said, UT San Diego reported.

The driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence, was transported by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.  Office Brenghi was also taken to hospital for treatment.
