SDSU CROSS COUNTRY TAKES EIGHTH AT THE MARK COVERT CLASSIC

August 31, 2019 (Brea, Calif.) - The Aztec cross country team finished in eighth place out of 21 teams at the Mark Covert Classic 5k at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif. Saturday morning. Sophomores Carlene Masar and Marissa D’Atri paced the Aztecs with a time of 19:15.4.

Masar and D’Atri placed 36th and 37th respectively and were followed by Lauren Harper (19:34.2) and Renee Phillips (19:34.6).

SDSU had four returners competing in their first collegiate meet: Lauren Harper (47th; 19:34.2), Jessica Kain (51st; 19:36.2), Alex Lomeli (19:47.6) and Bella Goode (90th; 20:22.5).

Also competing for the Aztecs was Paige Comiso (68th; 19:54.6), Naomi Smitham (76th; 20:09.1) and Isabelle Davis (115th; 20:52.3).

STAT OF THE MEET

The Aztecs had a 21 second difference between their top runner and fifth runner, the exact same spread they had at the 2018 Mark Covert Classic.

THE NOTE

Sophomores Marissa D’Atri and Naomi Smitham improved their times from the 2018 Mark Covert Classic. Smitham beat her 2018 time by over a minute.

The Aztecs will be competing at the UC Riverside Invitational September 14 at 7:30 a.m.
