December 23, 2017 (Fort Worth) - No conference championship for the Aztec football this year, but they still got a bowl game and a prestigious one too, as they got to face Army in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth.

Senior running back Rashaad Penny did what he does best.  Army did put up seven points in the first quarter to tie the game on quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw’s 19 yard run, but #20 ran for two rushing touchdowns; one in the first for 81 yards and one in the second for 32, breaking the SDSU single season record for rushing yards.  Black Knights fullback Darnell Woolfolk ran into the end zone for seven yards to tie the game once more.  Andy Davidson gave Army the lead with a four yard run, but running back Juwan Washington ran in a 78 yard kickoff return to bring the Aztecs back up to speed and tie the game at 21 going into halftime.

Penny ran in a touchdown for 49 yards to kick off the third and give the Aztecs a 28-21 lead in the only scoring of the third quarter, but in the fourth, things got testy.  Bradshaw tied the game on a 27-yard touchdown run, only to be countered by a four yard touchdown run by Penny to give the Aztecs the lead again.  It looked like the Aztecs had the game secured, but Woolfolk ran one yard for a touchdown and Kell Walker punched in the two-point conversion.  36-35 Army.  The Aztecs had one more shot at the win, but fumbled into the hands of Elijah Riley, who returned it 29 yards at the buzzer to give the Black Knights the 42-35 win and ended the Aztecs' season on a disappointing note.

That's it for SDSU football this season.  The Aztecs will return to action against Stanford on September 1.
