September 13, 2019 (Napa) - The San Diego State men’s tennis team split two doubles matches and four singles encounters on Friday during the opening round of competition at the Silverado Collegiate Invitational, held on the courts of Silverado Resort and Spa.

In doubles, the Aztec tandem of Jan Kirchhoff and David Hough joined forces to defeat Tulsa’s Boriss Kamdem and Daniel Siddall by an 8-5 count, but Aaro Pollanen and Arnaud Restifo were not as fortunate in their battle with another Golden Hurricane duo, dropping a narrow 8-6 decision to Stefan Hampe and Tom Thelwall-Jones.

In addition, SDSU posted a 2-2 record against four Hawai’i players in singles action. Pollanen emerged victorious in his Aztec debut with a 7-6, 6-0 triumph over the Rainbow Warriors’ Blaz Seric, while Rafael Gonzalez Almazan outlasted Axel Labrunie in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

On the flip side, Kirchhoff experienced a 7-5, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Andre Ilagan, while Restifo was upended by Lucas Labrunie 6-3, 6-4.

The Silverado Invitational continues on Saturday with more doubles and singles matches. In addition to the Aztecs and the two aforementioned schools, the tournament features players from Buffalo, Oklahoma State, Pacific, San Francisco and UNLV.
