February 23, 2022 (La Quinta, Calif.) - The San Diego State men’s golf team finished in a four-way tie for 13th place out of 24 teams at The Prestige on Wednesday. The Aztecs, who are ranked 44th in the latest Golfstat rankings, shot a 13-over 297 in today’s final round and ended at 47-over 899 overall at the par-71, 7,100-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA West.

SDSU tied with No. 5 Pepperdine, Colorado State and North Texas, two shots behind No. 25 LSU and host UC Davis, which were 11th at 45-over 897. Vanderbilt shot an impressive 14-under 270 today to finish at 16-over 868, 10 strokes clear of No. 48 Oregon (+26). No. 14 Kansas (+29) and No. 7 Texas Tech (+33) took third and fourth, respectively.

Puwit Anupansuebsai (Nakhon Phanom, Thailand) tied for 16th out of the 120 entrants to lead San Diego State at 8-over 221 following a 2-over 73 on Wednesday. Starting on the seventh hole, Anupansuebsai bogeyed the par-3, 181-yard hole before bouncing back with a birdie on the par-5, 566-yard 12th. His only other blemish on the day was a double bogey on the par-4, 461-yard 18th as he notched 15 pars.

Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) recovered from a 9-over 80 on Tuesday with an even-par 71 today, vaulting up 30 places to finish in a tie for 45th. Lague sank birdies on the par-4, 431-yard 15th, the par-5, 537-yard 16th and the par-3, 180-yard 17th to start out his first nine 33, but he double bogeyed the par-4, 470-yard second and bogeyed the par-4, 380-yard fifth to sign for a 71.

Zihao Jin (Beijing/Rancho Bernardo HS) finished in a tie for 59th after a second straight 77. Jin was at even par through 11 holes with birdies on the par-4, 359-yard ninth and No. 17, and two bogeys, but went 6-over for his final seven holes.

Steve Sugimoto (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) shot a second consecutive 8-over 79 and tied for 68th at +16. Sugimoto was unable to make a birdie on the day, instead recording three bogeys, a double bogey on the par-4, 415-yard 10th and a triple bogey on No. 17.

Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) finished in a tie for 110th at +24 after 5-over 76 today. Guezzale had a pair of birdies - No. 15 and the par-4, 477-yard third - but those were offset by four bogeys and a triple bogey on the par-3, 216-yard 13th.

Texas Tech’s Ludvig Aberg held onto his 36-hole lead with a 1-under 70 to finish at 3-under 210, two strokes clear of Oregon State’s Carson Barry (-1). Aberg and Barry were the only two golfers in the 120-man field who were not over-par.

Two other SDSU golfers - Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Skyler Ngo (Las Vegas) - finished their third rounds as individuals in The Prestige Individual Invitational on the par-72, 7,145-yard Coral Mountain Golf Club. Hastings shot a 1-over 73 and finished tied for 28th out of 62 golfers at 9-over 225, while Ngo’s even-par 72 had him finish in a tie for 37th at 12-over 228. Pepperdine’s Ian Maspat led wire-to-wire and posted a 4-under 68 today to finish at 6-under 210.

The Aztecs will co-host the Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California from March 7-8.
