October 7, 2022 (Los Angeles) - The Aztec men’s soccer team (4-6-2, 1-3-1) fell at UCLA (6-4-1, 2-2-1) 2-0 Friday evening after the Bruins scored a pair of second half goals.

SDSU had numerous opportunities and outshot the Bruins 16-12 but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Both of UCLA’s goals stemmed from Aztec miscues. The first came after a SDSU handball in the box that led to a Jose Sosa goal on a penalty kick in the 65th minute. Then in the 85th minute, SDSU had a failed clearance that directly led to a Tommy Silva goal.

The Aztecs constantly put pressure on the Bruin defense throughout the match. Some of their best opportunities came late in the second half. In the 77th minute, Rommee Jardily stole the ball from a Bruin and sent a lead pass to Austin Brummett which caused the UCLA goalkeeper to charge. Brummett beat him to the ball and tried to sneak it inside the far post but missed just wide.

Three minutes later, CJ Fodrey had a good look on the left wing after receiving a pass from Blake Bowen, but a Bruin defender made a sliding block.

THE NOTE

The Aztecs’ 16 shots were their second most in a game on the year.
