September 13, 2016 (San Diego) - After recording braces in each of his last two matches, San Diego State forward Jeroen Meefout (Houten, Netherlands) was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, the website announced Tuesday. The Aztec forward was the lone Pac-12 representative on the prestigious 11-player squad.

Meefout scored four of the team’s five goals in shutout wins over UT Rio Grande Valley and Memphis last weekend, leading SDSU to the team title at the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament, where he was selected as the most outstanding offensive player of the Aztecs’ annual home classic.

In SDSU’s 3-0 victory over UTRGV on Friday, Meefout converted a free kick from 18 yards out in the 24th minute and tallied another score in the 87th minute on a remarkable display of athleticism, meandering through four defenders before blasting a shot into the back of the net from 10 yards away. He also notched both goals in the Aztecs’ 2-0 whitewash of Memphis on Sunday with a penalty kick in the 32 minute, followed by another brilliant maneuver in the 89th minute, when he collected a pass from Debray Hollimon and raced downfield before launching a blast from 15 yards out on the right side.

Meefout, who also garnered Pac-12 Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, leads the league in four statistical categories so this season, including (4), points (8), goals per game (0.80) and points per game (1.60), and is tied for the top spot in the conference with two game winners.

With its wins, San Diego State (4-0-1) climbed two places into the 11th spot this week in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and also rose to No. 7 in the latest Soccer America Top 25 rankings.

Meefout and the Aztecs look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they travel north to battle Cal Poly on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Opening tap is set for 7 p.m. PT.
