Last day to register for Nov. 4 election is Oct. 20

September 23, 2014 (San Diego) - San Diego State University's Rock the Vote campaign  officially launched this week and will continue through Election Day on Nov 4.  To kick off the campaign on Sept. 23, Associated Students hosted a barbecue on campus with live music, free food, and voter registration tables.  Students can also register to vote online at SDSU.edu/Rockthevote.

The last day for you to register is Oct. 20. To register to vote in California, you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • A resident of California
  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and
  • Not in prison or in county jail

Jacqueline Karczewski, vice president of external relations for the Associated Students at SDSU, says the Rock the Vote campaign is important because students havc a powerful voice.

"We have the ability to create positive change in our city and state if we play an active role in this election,” she states, adding, “The purpose of this campaign is to create more awareness about our upcoming state elections and let students know that we, as students, can make a difference."

On Nov. 4, there will be a poll site in the Conrad Prebys Student Union for students, staff, faculty and community members to cast their votes. The campus polling site will be the largest in San Diego County.

Karczewski says students should exercise their right to vote and help shape California’s future. Plus she adds, "Students need to hold our legislators accountable and make higher education a priority."
