March 2, 2017 (San Diego) - After facing McNeese State earlier in the first day of the San Diego Classic, a game in which they rallied in the seventh, but ultimately fell 7-6, SDSU softball took on BYU tonight in the second game of their doubleheader.  Senior McKenna Bull started for the Cougars against the freshman Marissa Moreno for the Aztecs.

SDSU was doomed from the start.  The Cougars were quick to get two runners on in the first inning.  That was followed by a three-run homer to left by sophomore designated player Libby Sugg to give BYU an early 3-0 lead.

The Cougars had another big inning in the third when senior first baseman Ashley Thompson singled to center to score sophomore left fielder Lexi Tarrow to extend the lead to 4-0.  She was brought home by junior Caitlyn Alldredge’s sac fly and the Cougars led 5-0.

The Aztecs finally figured out Bull in the sixth when junior designated player Taylor Stewart hit a sharp liner to right to score a run and make the score 5-1, but that was all the rallying the Aztecs would do as they fall in the late game 5-1, losing both games of the doubleheader and falling to 8-7 on the season.  Bull struck out eight Aztecs.

Friday night, a school that the Aztecs don't see very often will visit SDSU Softball Stadium as the Classic continues.  The Aztecs will play the Boston University Terriers.  First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
