SDSU TAKES HOME BASKETS OF AWARDS AT CONFERENCE HONORS

March 8, 2016 (San Diego) - Four San Diego State Basketball players, along with head coach Steve Fisher, took home Mountain West conference honors that were announced on Sunday afternoon.

Senior forward Winston Shepard III made second – team all – MW, a distinction he was given in 2015 as well.

He averaged 12.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists in conference play, during which the Aztecs went 16-2.

They also had two players, sophomore guard Trey Kell and freshman guard Jeremy Hemsley, to the all – MW third team, giving the Aztecs a league-high three players named on the all-conference teams.

Kell led SDSU with 16.2 points in MW play, scoring in double figures in all 18 games against MW competition.

Hemsley was one of two freshman to make an all-conference team, earning the honor by leading the Aztecs with 13.1 points per game, the most for a freshman in the MW.

Senior forward Skylar Spencer was named defensive player of the year, his second consecutive season winning the award, and was named to the MW honorable mention team after averaging 1.6 blocks and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Fisher’s coach of the year award was his fourth since he came to San Diego, and his first since 2014.
