February 10, 2017 (Alberquerque) - San Diego State track and field junior Ashley Henderson broke the school record in the 200 meters with her 23.40 time on the first day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday, one meet removed from setting the UW Invitational meet record in the event on Jan. 27.

Henderson finished third in the 200, crossing the finish line in 23.40, just 0.04 second faster than her own school record in the event, which she set at the 2016 Mountain West Indoor Championships.

Senior Starlynn Singleton also had a banner day, setting two collegiate personal records. She recorded a 7.52 time in the 60-meter dash qualifying preliminaries, the day’s second-best time. Her second PR came in the long jump, where she posted a 19-02.75 mark for the eighth-best jump in school history and 11th place. At the UW Invitational, she won the long jump with a 19-00.75 jump, which was then a personal best.

Also setting personal records in the long jump were Jelena McNown (18th, 18-07.25) and Lisa-Anne Barrow (26th, 18-02.50). Kira Moreland recorded an 18-02.50 mark to tie with Barrow.

Junior Rochene Smith had a strong showing in the 200, as her 24.16 time and 10th-place finish was good enough for 10th all-time. Simone Glenn (13th, 24.17), Tyra Lea (21st, 24.40) and Singleton (37th, 24.75) rounded out the Aztecs’ finishers in the event.

In the 60-meter dash qualifying preliminaries, Glenn was 11th with a 7.59 time, while Smith clocked in at 7.66 for 23rd. McNown (48th, 7.87), Moreland (58th, 7.91) and Barrow (62nd, 7.92) also competed for SDSU.

The Scarlet and Black opens the final day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the shot put and the pole vault.
