March 6, 2017 (Fairfax, Calif.) - The San Diego State women's golf team vaulted to the top standings at the Meadow Club Intercollegiate Monday after shooting a collective 6-over-par 582 during the first two rounds at the exclusive par-72, 6,167 Meadow Club.

The Aztecs collected scores of 293-289 to grab a one-shot advantage over Brigham Young (+7) heading into Tuesday’s final round. Third-place Illinois (+14) remains seven strokes off the pace, while California (+15) lurks closely behind in fourth, followed by Michigan (+22).

Three Aztecs finished the day in a massive nine-way logjam for sixth place on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 2-over 146, including seniors Sirene Blair and Natalie Vivaldi, along with freshman Fernanda Escauriza.

Blair, who posted rounds of 72-74, led the team with seven birdies overall, including back-to-back conversions at No. 16 and No. 17 in first round, which came on the heels of an eagle on the par-5, 482-yard 15th.

Escauriza also made eagle at the par-5, 478-yard No. 1 in the afternoon to highlight a team-best 71 in the second round, which also featured 14 pars. With her total, the Asunción, Paraguay, native jumped 20 spots on the ladder after opening with a 75.

Meanwhile, Vivaldi carded six birdies of her own for the day en route a 74-72. Starting at hole No. 6, the Colorado transfer was 2-over for the second round after making bogey at the par-4 16th, but finished strong down the stretch with birdies at No. 17 and No. 1, followed by four consecutive pars.

With their scores, the SDSU trio remains five shots off the pace behind front-runner Siyun Liu of Illinois (-3), while My Leander of San Jose State (-2) sits in second, followed closely Kendra Dalton of Brigham Young (-1).

Elsewhere, Aztec junior Georgia Lacey shaved four strokes off her total from the first round, climbing 18 places  into a tie for 16th at 4-over 148. The Torrey Pines High product opened with a 76, but offset three bogeys with a trio of birdies in the afternoon, before finishing with three straight pars for a 72.

Conversely, fellow classmate Haleigh Krause experienced the exact opposite fate, tumbling 18 spots into a tie for 23rd at 6-over 150 following rounds of 72-78. The Eugene, Ore., native was unable to overcome a rash of six bogeys in the afternoon after posting an ominous double-bogey-6 on her first hole, the par-4, No. 7

San Diego State will be aiming for its second tournament title of the season on Tuesday when it tees off with Illinois and BYU for the final round of the Meadow Club Intercollegiate, starting at 8:15 a.m. PT.
