November 9, 2019 (San Diego) - San Diego State women’s tennis team completed day two of the SDSU Fall Classic November 9. The Aztecs collected three doubles wins as well as three singles victories throughout the day.

Based on Saturday’s results, SDSU will have a representative in all three of the Fall Classic II tournament’s doubles championship games. Junior Nnena Nadozie and sophomore Alicia Melosch defeated Denver’s Nelson/Burger 6-1 for a spot in the red draw final and freshman Julia Jordan and junior Tamara Arnold topped Goheen/Bostrom from Montana 6-4 to move onto the championship in the white draw. The Aztecs also saw sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy and freshman Cecilé Morin best UC Irvine’s Nguyen/Fossorier 6-2 to head to the finals in the black draw. Senior Mia Smith and junior Abbie Mulbarger did not have the same luck, however, dropping a 6-3 decision to Denver’s Verde-Anderson/Reidmiller.

In singles action, Rimoldi Godoy captured a spot in the black draw’s consolation championship match up with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory over Drake’s Tatarnikova. Both Nadozie and Morin continued their success from day one with wins in the white draw, with Nadozie topping Stanford’s Choy 7-6 (5), 7-5 while Morin defeated Montana’s Ronney 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

The Aztecs struggled in play against the University of Denver Saturday, as the red draw saw Melosch fall to Nelson in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 and Jordan drop a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Pursell. In the white draw, Smith battled with Denver’s Riedmiller but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-4.

In the black draw, Mulbarger was unable to keep an early match lead against Air Force’s Fitch and came up on the short end of a 5-6, 6-1, 6-0 decision.

Action concludes tomorrow at the Aztec Tennis Center, with doubles play starting at 9 a.m, immediately followed by singles action. Admission to Fall Classic II is free and fans are encouraged to park in P7 on the corner of 55th Street and Montezuma Road. The Aztec Tennis Center is located just beyond Tony Gwynn Stadium, SDSU Softball Stadium and the Aztec Aquaplex on the northwest edge of campus.
