March 21, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State’s Blake Abercrombie (Rocklin, Calif.) was selected Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week for tournaments played March 12-20, as announced Tuesday by the league office. With his award, the Aztec junior garnered the first conference weekly/monthly accolade of his career and first for SDSU this season.

Abercrombie equaled his highest placement as a collegian last week at the Lamkin San Diego Classic, tying for second among 91 competitors after shooting a combined 6-under par 210 at the par-72, 7,014-yard San Diego Country Club.

A graduate of Rocklin High School, Abercrombie was tops among 20 Mountain West golfers in the field, posting the fourth top-five finish of his career and second of the season. In addition, his second-place standing was better than eight participants who were ranked among the top 100 in the Golfstat Cup standings entering the event.

In the opening round, Abercrombie matched the tournament low with a card of 67, highlighted by a team-high seven birdies, for his third-lowest 18-hole score as a collegian.

Abercrombie is just one of three players to start in all seven tournaments for San Diego State this season and is currently tied for second on the squad with a 72.13 scoring average. He has also completed 12 rounds at or below par this year, including four in the 60s.

Abercrombie and the Aztecs return to the course next week when they travel to the Pacific Northwest for the Oregon Duck Invitational, March 27-28, in Eugene, Ore.
