SENIOR HEALTH PROGRAMS FOR JANUARY ANNOUNCED

December 16, 2010 (La Mesa)-- The Senior Resource Center at Sharp Grossmont Hospital offers free or low-cost educational programs and health screenings each month. The Senior Resource Center also provides information and assistance for health information and community resources. Below are classes offered for January on a wide range of topics of interest to seniors.


JANUARY CLASSES

 

MANAGING CAREGIVER EMOTIONS
Caregivers often become emotional casualties while providing care for their loved ones. Learn to recognize the unique factors that contribute to caregiver stress, understand various methods of dealing with anger and other stressful emotions and learn to articulate tips that will help in reducing stress. Presented by Diane Darby-Beach from the Alzheimer’s Association on Monday, January 24, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Grossmont HealthCare District Conference Center, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. SHAPE UP IN THE NEW YEAR
Want to lose weight? Think you need more fiber? Want to have more energy and just feel better overall? Think you should exercise, yet don’t have “the get up and go” to do it? Learn simple tricks to make your diet healthier (for example: eat a rainbow.). Find out from Registered Dietitian Candy Cumming what makes being healthy challenging and make a plan to make it easier! PROJECT C.A.R.E. COMMUNITY ACTION TO REACH THE ELDERLY
This free program helps people who live alone by offering a phone call each day. It there’s no answer, someone is called to check on you. Other Project C.A.R.E. services include Vial of Life, friendly visitor from the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol and more. East county residents may call the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Senior Resource Center at 619-740-4214. Seniors in other zip codes may call 1-800-510-2020 for locations throughout San Diego County.
