March 4, 2016 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police are search for two suspects who fired a gun at a witness during a robbery at the Sombrero Mexican Food restaurant in the 1200 block of West Main Street last night. The shot missed and the witness was not harmed.

The suspects, both Hispanic men, are believed to be in their mid-20s and around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. One had a goatee, wore a bulky green jacket, and was armed with a knife. The second suspect had a mustache and dark jacket.  They drove a black BMW.

According to Lieutenant Royal Bates, a witness inside the restaurant called 911 at 9:51 p.m. to report the robbery. The 911 dispatcher heard a possible gunshot.  Officers arrived to learn that a witness followed the suspects outside after the robbery. Upon seeing the witness, one suspect fired a single round, but missed.  The weapon appeared to be a handgun.

After demanding cash from the register and firing the gunshot at the witness, the suspects fled in a newer model, black BMW four-door, heading westbound on Interstate 8. Information was broadcast to neighboring law enforcement agencies and CHP.
