How Forrest Gate got its name....

Jim Baker, Steam Foreman at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo www.psrm.org sent us this fascinating info on how Forrest Gate Road got its name:

The road has nothing to do with a forest, but is named after a Cavalry General whose last name was Forrest.  Note the names of the roads in the former US Cavalry Camp Lockett in Campo:  Sheridan, JEB Stuart, Parker, etc.  Army policy at the time was to name posts, roads, gates, etc. after both US and Confederate soldiers.  There was a gate at Camp Lockett named after Gen.

Forrest, so the road that went through the Forrest Gate was Forrest Gate Road. (Information from Mountain Empire Historical Society, Historic Campo Stone Store Museum).
