SHOULD SDG&E BE ALLOWED TO DOUBLE SMART METER OPT OUT FEES? CPUC TO HOST PUBLIC HEARING TUESDAY, DEC. 18 IN SAN CLEMENTE

December 17, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Flooded with complaints from ratepayers, the California Public Utilities Commission will hold a public meeting tomorrow night at 6 p.m. in San Clemente on whether to allow SDG&E to impose a hefty fee hike for customers who want to opt out of having smart meters on their homes.

Susan Brinchman of La Mesa, director and founder of the Center for Electrosmog Prevention, has led efforts to stop the fee hikes.  “Come join us to protest and speak out about smart meter opt-out fees in front of the CPUC judge making decisions on fees and whether to DOUBLE the opt-out fees,” she wrote in an e-mail to ECM. “We need speakers.”

Brinchman offered the following talking points:  http://www.stopocsmartmeters.com/news-events/

Carpooling may be available, she added. Contact Susan Brinchman, 619-463-0249, or reply to sbrinchman@aol.com.

SDG&E has insisted that smart meters do not pose health risks, though Brinchman and others have reported problems ranging from headaches to ringing of the years that they believe are related to smart meters installed at their homes.  Brinchman's doctor agrees that her symptoms were likely related to the smart meter installed without her permission--symptoms that largely improved when the meter was removed.

The meeting will be held in the San Clemente Community Center, Ole Hanson Fireside Room, 100 N. Calle Seville.

Transcripts for CPUC PPH meetings on opt-out fees

Transcripts for all five CPUC PPH meetings are located here:
http://www.scribd.com/collections/4058713/CPUC-PPH-Meetings-Transcripts-Dec-2012

In reviewing these transcripts it is evident that virtually all attendees (many hundreds) were against smart meters and fees for opting out. The transcript is inaccurate regarding my statement made in San Clemente (speaker #7), so I am including it here, taken from the audio link below.

"Hi, My name is Susan Brinchman. I live in La Mesa, California. And I'm here representing myself. I'm also a party to the opt-out proceedings, but I'm not representing my organization, the Center for Electrosmog Prevention at this time. I'm a person who has been profoundly affected by the smart meters. Before the smart meters were put on my property - I had a gas smart meter and an electric smart meter. Before they were put on my property where they remained for two years, I had no symptoms of electrosensitivity. I didn't even really know what that was. And I was able to use other devices without any problems that I could detect, such as cell phones or computers or, you know, microwave ovens, et cetera. But since the smart meter was put on my home, within six months I became sensitive to cell phone radiation, to computer emitted radiation, to any form or RF radiation that is in a microwave range. I cannot use microwaves anymore. SO It has completely disrupted my life. They gave me headaches, dizziness, heart palpitations. I listed 15 different symptoms that came from the smart meters. Now I can't be in WiFi. All the buildings have WiFi now. So it ruined my health and my life. My quality of life is destroyed. All so a company can save money on meter meters and gouge us. SO I want no fees. I think anyone who wants to get rid of this disastrous device - until they are all banned, and they should be all banned - I think they should not pay a dime. Not a penny. (Applause) MS. BRINCHMAN: They should be removed immediately. It is a menace to public health. And Judge Kikugawa, you can do something about this. I ask as a mother, you are a mother, you wouldn't want your children to end up like I am. And believe me, it can happen to them. It can destroy their lives. Children are more susceptible.(So don't listen to anyone except these people and make the right decisions. Thank you."

San Clemente, CA CPUC Smart Meter Opt-out Fees Meeting held on Dec. 18, 2012,
presented by Center for Electrosmog Prevention of La Mesa, CA.

At least 100 people attended, with approx 45 speakers who passionately described serious illnesses

Kikugawa, for the CPUC. Speakers were only given 2 minutes each and the meeting was cut off early
without good reason, to the objections of the audience, after 1 1/2 hours, though it was to have
lasted 2 hours.
