SKIN SAFETY MEETING AT HEALTHCARE LIBRARY IN LA MESA

May 10, 2016 (La Mesa) - The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host “Be Sun Smart,” a free presentation on skin care and safety from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25. The program is part of the library’s Wellness Wednesday series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. Advance RSVP is not necessary. Speaking will be Tina Mirpuri, care director with Synergy HomeCare of La Mesa, a franchised home care company.

“The presentation will discuss ultraviolet radiation from the sun, how it affects your skin and why protecting yourself from UV exposure is critical to preventing skin cancer,” said  Kathy Quinn, director, Herrick Community Healthcare Library. “Each year in America, over three million people are treated for non-melanoma skin cancer, and 90 percent of those cancers are associated with UV radiation from the sun, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Please join us in the fight against skin cancer with awareness and prevention and to learn more about lifelong sun safety habits and protection.”

The Herrick Library, which opened in 2002, is a consumer health public library specializing in health research information, accessible both on-site and via the Internet. The library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County.
