May 26, 2017 (Spring Valley) -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a 14-year-old Steele Canyon High School student last night who threatened another Steele Canyon student via social media. The student posted a picture on Snap Chat of himself carrying what appeared to be a handgun and told the victim not to show up today for school at the campus in Spring Valley.

The handgun pictured on Snap Chat turned out to be a "BB Gun" and it was taken for safekeeping. The student admitted to posting the picture on social media and acting alone.

The investigation is on-going. In the abundance of caution, the public can expect Sheriff's deputies to conduct extra patrols at the Steele Canyon High School campus, says Sergeant Matt Cooke.
