September 14, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) - The Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Group (SPFMG) invites you to a public open house where you can learn more about the fire mitigation grants program and the results of the Year 2017 Grants Program.  The open house will be held Tuesday, September 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine.

The SPFMG includes federal, state and local fire agencies with jurisdiction along the route and was formed to implement and provide oversight to the Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Program.

Organizations involved include: Bureau of Land Management (BLM), California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), San Diego County Fire Authority, City of San Diego Fire & Rescue Department, Alpine Fire Protection District, and Lakeside Fire Protection District. SDG&E’s role is to fund the program and participate as a non-voting member.

Members of the Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Group team will be available to discuss grant program details and answer questions. Meeting information:

The meeting is an open house format. Please come anytime between 6:00 and 7:30 pm. No RSVP is required.

Sunrise Powerlink Fire Mitigation Grants are designed to provide funds for brush clearing and fire hardening at properties at highest risk of fire along the Sunrise Powerlink high voltage lines.

Some Jamul residents have complained that some grants have been provided to Alpine properties at lower risk than Jamul properties that did not receive grants. Jamulians have also complained that no Jamul resident is a member of the mitigation group and their representation is limited to the County Fire Chief, while Alpine does have representation. The editor of the Deerhorn Valley Antler, Kim Hamilton, voiced disappointment that despite those concerns from her community, the only open house announced thus far is slated for Alpine, a long distance from Jamul.

For more information on the open house, please see website: www.spfmg.com or call 1 (833) 830-1115.
