November 7, 2013 (San Diego) – By a unanimous vote, San Diego Supervisors this week approved an increase in general relief assistance for low-income county residents.
Residents who do not receive support from other sources such as state or federal programs will be eligible for grants of $303 a month for a single person and $413 a month for a married couple.
Supervisors also increased the vehicle exemption to $4,650 and raised the liquid asset limit to $50.
In San Diego, 80 percent of those receiving general relief are unable to work due to mental or physical problems. About two-thirds of the recipients are men. These are generally people who are not eligible to receive CalWORKS or Social Security benefits.
The measure also authorized the Health and Human Services Director to establish work participation regulations.
